A day after Barca widened the gap to five points, Real shortened to two points with a 3-1 win against Eibar.
Like Barca beat Mallorca 4-0, Real started strong right after the opening whistle. Second-placed La Liga only needs 182 seconds to open the score. After Alvarez cleared the ball in a dispute with Benzema, midfielder Toni Kroos shot from 16 meters into the top of the Eibar goal.
Compared to a Real who was eager to win, Eibar played not really focused in the first 10 minutes. Many visiting players languished in their first game without a spectator in La Liga.
Eibar only got better from the 13th minute, when Cristoforo shot a long shot towards the goalkeeper Courtois. However, most of the visitors’ balls did not pass through the defensive wall led by Sergio Ramos.
Real, in some situations, deliberately gave way to counterattack. 30 minutes, they succeeded with this plan and scored a second. After taking the ball from the defense, Ramos quickly passed to Benzema from the left-wing. When he received a pass from Benzema, Eden Hazard did not end in the face of the goalkeeper but stretched to Ramos to cushion the net.
This is Hazard’s first match after a half year of convalescence. The number 7 winged striker has yet to regain the flexibility he used to play for Chelsea, but still shows the level of a top player.
The second Real table is worth a turning point. After widening the gap, Eibar played a bit panicked. On the contrary, the home team was filled with excitement and pushed the pitch high.
37 minutes, Real increased the score to 3-0. After an Eibar defender deflected the ball, Marcelo took the opportunity to shoot from 16 meters into the far corner.
Marcelo is the 19th Real player to score in La Liga 2019-2020. In the top five national championships in Europe, Real is the team with the most diverse list of scorers.
After having the advantage of leading three goals, Real actively reduced the pressure on Eibar’s goal. Benzema and Kroos are still playing, but their attack performance is only half that of before.
Real’s sluggish performance also stemmed from Zidane’s substitution decision. Due to the risk of injury, Zidane soon sent Carvajal and Ramos out. When he sat on the stage, Ramos had to apply ice on his thigh.
Enlist the opportunity Real loosened, Eibar attacked stronger in the second half. Orellana and Exposito both forced Courtois to push the ball to the corner after a powerful shot.
60 minutes, Eibar shorten the score to 1-3. De Blasis takes a shot and makes Bigas hit the ball into the goal.
Shortening table as more motivation for Eibar. In the remaining time, Real continued to play in a prop. Courtois goalkeeper must show off at least once more. Real were also fortunate that the referee missed the second yellow card for Casemiro, who repeatedly fouled the Eibar player.
Real stepped up the attack with Vinicius, Bale and Valverde, but their offensive effort was not enough to cause waves for Eibar. For the whole match, the home team only made six shots, three times less than the opponent.
A 3-1 victory is enough for coach Zidane and Real fans to be satisfied. The second team reached 59 points after 28 rounds, continuing to chase Barca with two points behind.
